Port Hill A4130 between Nettlebed and Nuffield. Ongoing issue of neglect now critical with summer growth. Vegetation dangerously high and neglected along Port Hill on footpaths from villages Nuffield to Nettlebed so unsafe for pedestrians including bus passengers (often children) and all road users who might hit them. Vegetation also makes road unsafe for cars arriving and leaving the many residences (with young families) on the hill near the lay by, as oncoming vehicles from Nuffield in particular – travelling at high speeds – have almost no visibility until upon the driveways or lay-by which are largely concealed (at the best of time due to the bend on approach, and at the worst due to the bend and the unmanaged vegetation) and lack SLOW road markings which would be a sensible and low cost hazard warning for drivers. Please can we have appropriate signage and for footpaths and verges to be managed asap before accident happens. Looking forward to receiving a response from Highways Agency and OCC re BOTH taking responsibility for the safety of its residents and roads for everyone’s benefit in this AONB. Thank you in advance.

Thank you for your report and please accept our apologies for the delay in response. Having recently inspected the route it would appear that the vegetation on the verge has now been attended to / has died back due to the time of year. The use of slow marking on roads are usually placed to supplement a specific road sign ahead of a specific hazard. Looking at this stretch of road it is generally straight and whilst there are a few rural public footpaths meeting the road, this would not be considered unusual for a section of road within the Chilterns and therefore we would not consider this to be a priority at this present time.
