Byway from the A4185 near Harwell Campus to the A34 bridge near Hagbourne Hill

Reported in the Road Traffic Signs and Road Markings category anonymously at 06:42, Mon 5 August 2019

Sent to Oxfordshire County Council 3 minutes later

I have observed that the restricted byway from the A4185 near Harwell Campus to the A34 bridge near Hagbourne Hill (243/15 on the definitive map) getting illegal usage by motor vehicles, so I am writing to request additional signage to indicate that motor vehicles are not allowed. Whilst I accept that you can't necessarily put such signage on every such right of way, I think it is warranted in this case because there is potential confusion for motorists due to it being the continuation of the dead-end byway (401/13) on the other side of the A34. I believe that the following signage is needed: 1) a "no motor vehicles" sign at the western end (junction with the A4185) 2) a "no motor vehicles" sign at the eastern end (by the A34 bridge) 3) a "no through road" (except cycles) sign on byway 401/13 at the junction with Hagbourne Hill (for westward traffic) -- by the existing National Speed Limit sign.I believe that there are existing posts of various sorts that these new signs could be attached to.

  • This request was sent in by email after problem creating it on this site, so it was created on my behalf by OCC. They have marked a wrong location (by the phone box). The correct location of the bridleway is just over 1km further north from the point shown.

  • Sorry to hear that the fact that I have witnessed illegal use of the track on more than one occasion is not considered sufficient for you to intervene. Please can you supply a copy of your criteria for intervention.
