On the A4095 Bampton Road at Curbridge there is section of damaged road surface between Main Road and the unnamed road towards Ducklington. This causes vehicles travelling towards Witney to move right into the marked turning areas.
This morning a vehicle travelling towards Witney at approximately 60mph moved across to the marked junction area to avoid the damaged area of road. At the same time a vehicle travelled out of the unnamed road into the marked area to cross into Main Road, Curbridge. This resulted in a near-miss head on collision with speeds of 60mph involved.
This junction has a a history of collisions with three injury collisions in the past five years, This defect has been present for a number of weeks and should have noted in previous inspections by Oxfordshire County Council. It should be investigated why the configuration of the junction was not taken into account when assessing the priority of any repair.
