No advance warning of major roadworks on A40 near Wheatley causing major traffic hold-ups

Reported in the Road Traffic Signs and Road Markings category anonymously at 17:54, Monday 22 July 2019

Sent to Oxfordshire County Council 1 minute later

Traffic needs to be diverted at Junction 8 of the M40 so as to avoid a major traffic build-up from this point to Green Road Roundabout in Headington. I was caught in this traffic today and missed a mid-day appointment at hospital. No doubt other car drivers were in a similar position. Coaches and buses were caught in this appalling traffic jam as were delivery lorries. What a way to welcome tourists to Oxford - sitting in traffic for hours. I wonder why the Highways Dept of Oxford County Counci has chosen to carry out road repairs during the tourist season? Businesses in Oxford will be severely affected and the 'High Street' is already in crisis. These repairs are going to apparently last 5 weeks, the duration of the school holidays.
