Road marking showing speed limit not clearly visible. Needs repainting

There are 2 painted 20 signs pointing both ways that have not been repainted since they were originally put on the road when the 20 sign was introduced. The paint on both of them is warn and not visible to drivers

  • Thank you for your report. Having spoken to our Road Safety Team, these 20 mph road markings were installed as part of an experiment (along with those in Wharton Road). Sadly monitoring before and after their installation showed that they had no appreciable effect on vehicle speed. Consequently it was decided not to perpetuate them.

    Due to the high cost of removal it was therefore decided to allow them to either fade away or not replace them after resurfacing.
