This Request for a Pedestrian Crossing is made on behalf of the residents of Charles Ponsonby House, 21 Osberton Road, which provides sheltered accommodation for around 36 residents, many of whom are disabled and without private transport. They depend on the very good bus services which stop at Osberton Road but find it extremely difficult and dangerous to cross at this point. The traffic is heavy and tends to speed up on this stretch of road. There is also a blind corner just before Osberton Road on the east side as traffic approaches from the north.
Please would you also consider the following points:
- our request has the support of other residents of Osberton Road , many of whom have young children or need access to the cycle track as well as bus stops. We have their supporting signatures on a Petition.
- the bus stops are near to the side entrance to Alexandra Park. There is also a Post Box nearby. People need to cross safely to access these facilities.
- We are requesting a crossing rather than an Island since large goods vehicles and frequent buses and coaches would render this intimidating for older people with walking difficulties. -

Thank you for your report. Although this location might benefit from a pedestrian crossing we currently do not have a budget to install one in the short term. However, colleagues at the County Council may be able to consider this as part of wider transport improvements in the future.
