Hedges need cutting back
Reported in the Grass category anonymously at 15:15, Wed 17 July 2019
Sent to Oxfordshire County Council 5 minutes later
The hedges on Brookside Close need to be cut back. They’ve grown so much that the road has narrowed making it impossible for vehicles to even attempt to pass each other. Cars are being scratched as they go past and the roadside drainage is completely covered.

Hi there - this has got worse with the recent rain. The adjacent landowner is a farmer who at this time of year is extremely busy and I can’t imagine will have time at the moment. As the obstruction is on the public highway is it not the council that will maintain? Many thanks.

This problem remains and the hedge has now grown several feet from the edging kerbs and reduced a two-way street to one narrower than a single track road. Cars are being scratched and damaged by branches and brambles. This is a public road and should be maintained.

Is there any update to this please? The hedges are now really ridiculous.

At places the hedges now extend over 5 feet into the road and it is impossible for two cars to pass each other. Parked cars now the road further resulting in scratched paintwork to the car driving through. The council has a duty to keep the highway clear and it has failed to do so.

Is there any update on this reported issue? You said you have contacted the adjacent land owner, however, this is nothing to do with that land owner. The field the other side of this road, has it's own hedge and then there is a brook before this overgrown hedge/self seeded shrubs/small trees which borders the road. Please can you confirm that the SODC highways department is responsible for this road, and therefore responsible for the upkeep and trimming back of the overgrown hedge. With many thanks Tracey Smith Parish Councillor
