Traffic light sequence wrong/dangerous

Reported in the Traffic Lights (permanent only) category anonymously at 16:19, Friday 5 July 2019

Sent to Oxfordshire County Council less than a minute later

The traffic light system/sequence when turning right from the A423 (travelling from Heyford Hill roundabout) towards the Abingdon Road is dangerous. I have witnessed numerous times vehicles in the left of the two lanes trying to turn right when the traffic from behind has the ability to continue straight ahead. There will be a major incident soon. I have dashcam evidence of the last time an incident almost occurred.

  • In my opinion, this junction can be dangerous

  • Thank you for recently contacting Oxfordshire County Council regarding the A423/Abingdon Rd Kennington traffic signal junction. The operation of the site has been checked and found to be working as intended without any current faults. The signals have been operating with the current layout and sequence since being installed in 2014. We have checked the junctions accident history which doesn’t highlight there to be an accident problem with the site. We believe the current junction configuration is the best achievable at the site and will continue to monitor its operation.

  • I have footage of a near incident that is the type of incident that I have witnessed previously. Your site will not permit videos, so how do I get this to you?

  • Standard response - “we expect there to be a number of incidents when we change a road layout “. I’ll try not to say anything when there’s a serious incident in the near future.

  • Council don’t use the roads enough to see the potential danger.
