Pothole, long grass, lack of signage, speed limit

Reported in the Grass and Hedges category anonymously at 22:15, Wednesday 3 July 2019

Sent to Oxfordshire County Council 5 minutes later

There are a few things wrong with this stretch of road that make it incredibly dangerous.

There is a pothole on the braking point of this corner which makes the corner dangerous. Someone I spoke to following the accident said someone they knew had gone into the trees and had also found older bits of car debris. I myself found what looks like a bit of an old car which looked like it had been there for a long time.

The speed limit is a national road (60mph) though the road certainly is not wide enough, nor has enough visibility to be 60mph. It should be 40 or 50mph maximum.

There is a large amount of long grass around the corner which greatly reduces visibility of the turn. Even if there had been signage, it is unlikely anyone could see it for loss within the grass.

The lack of signage regarding queuing possibilities does no favours for this road, nor does the lack of signage regarding the bend itself and warning of slowing down.

From where the incident happened I had to move my car a significant amount forward for fear of being shunted from the back by drivers flying round the bend.

I am unaware how long these issues have been present, the pothole has certainly been there a while as someone else mentioned it in their story which was a few months ago.

I have further photos showing the lack of signage leading up to the corner if you wish.

  • This report has been closed. We cannot deal with more than one issue per report, especially when they are different types.
Grass cutting has already started, and the pothole is arranged for repair. We do not maintain the wooded/tree area - that would be an issue for Biffa, who clear the verges for the District Council. Please liaise with them, regarding that issue. Also, any issues with speeds of road, need reporting to Thames Valley Police on 101.

State changed to: No further action
