Sunken drain
Reported in the Blocked Drain / Gully category anonymously at 14:18, Fri 21 June 2019
Sent to Oxford City Council and Oxfordshire County Council 2 minutes later
I have a drain outside my house which has sunk which means every time a heavy vehicle eg (Buses, Tesco, Sainsbury or any other delivery lorry goes over it the whole house shakes. The drain is right on the corner of Oxford Road and Littlehay Road.

At the moment Oxford Road is closed to most traffic, I have updated these pictures to show that the sunken drain needs to be raised at least three inches and I hope you will be using the road closure to do the job as soon as possible. If your records go back far enough say thirty two years ago twice in the past the repair was done correctly by raising the drain which if done right will last about fifteen years.

The problem with the sunken drain has NOT been fixed, I have since my first complaint noticed that the vibration from heavy traffic is badly affecting all the garden walls between 38 & 42 Oxford Road and they are badly in need of repair which cannot be fixed safetly until the drain has been raised up. The photos below are the repair that was done around 2017 which was totally a waste of time as it did not stop the vibration at all. I complained after this repair was done and I got an email back saying the drain had to be low to let the rainwater away. The drain should have been lifted level with the road for the solution to be solved in the first repair.

The stretch of road between the junction of Marsh road and oxford road to the garage next to little hay road has had 4 separate incidents of cars smashing into walls of properties in the last year alone. My wall was completely destroyed on 30/11/2019 as was the mosque’s twice near marsh road and the recent car collision at the junction of littlehay road. Some traffic calming must be installed to avoid further serious accidents and potentially dangerous to life incidents. The impact of a small car hitting my wall and destroying it almost completely should be sufficient to highlight the dangers of high speed drivers who have no respect for the residents living at close proximity to the road.
