Unsafe road crossing

Reported in the Highway Schemes category anonymously at 12:37, Thursday 23 May 2019

Sent to Oxfordshire County Council 4 minutes later

The pedestrian crossing is unsafe. Due to the congestion and bad design of the junction traffic from the east and north routinely go past their respective red lights and queue across the pedestration crossing and junction. This often blocks the crossing and pedestrians have to weave through traffic. Traffic on the junction dont realise the green man is showing (no red light) and can on occasion drive toward pedestrians who think it is safe to cross. There is a yellow box on the junction but this is too small and is regularly ignored. This needs review.

  • This report is not the responsibility of Oxfordshire County Council as the design of the crossings meet Department For Transport Standards. Sadly the County Council have no Authority to inforce against queuing traffic that obstructs the crossing points. Consequently any allegations need to be sent to Thames Valley Police (telephone 101) as they are currently the only organisation that can enforce for obstruction.
