Safety Barriers Removed

Reported in the Pavements category anonymously at 20:46, Wednesday 22 May 2019

Sent to Oxfordshire County Council 4 minutes later

There has been galvanised steel safety rails at the location for about 25years. It stops young children running out into the road where there is moving traffic and the hedgerow either side is very high so children cannot see until they get to the safety rails. A few weeks ago the rails were removed and the holes they left were tarmacked over. There is now a 'clear run' for a child to run across and a car to hit them which I am appalled by as there was clearly no risk assessment completed. I cannot actually see any reason for the barrier removal either as they were working for over 25 years with no issues It appears that this is occurring on various paths in Southwold with some having a silly little vertical wooden post put at the end of some paths which will do nothing and rot out. I did report this once before with OCC saying it is ' nothing to do with them and to try Cherwell Council' I have liaised with Tim Green who is the Landscape Officer for Cherwell advised that they have not done this. He also advised that all the cycleways are owned by OCC and it is definitely a road safety issue. Can you please asap get some safety barriers established before a child is injured or even killed as the speed of some cars is excessive despite it being a slow road.
