Traffic light at crossing needs adjustment
Reported in the Traffic Lights (permanent only) category anonymously at 10:14, Thu 16 May 2019
Sent to Oxfordshire County Council 1 minute later
While cars are being held northbound at the Godstow road traffic lights on the roundabout, waiting to leave the roundabout and proceed north on A44, the filter lights for the pedestrian crossing are showing green and they can be clearly seen by the vehicles that are being held on red. In the last two weeks I have witnessed TWO near-major incidents of cars incorrectly using these filter lights signal to move ahead directly in the face of fast moving traffic approaching the roundabout from the northern by pass. Twice, I've seen cars swerve out of the way from the by pass to avoid the confused drivers approaching the a44 from the traffic lights near god stow road.
This is a MAJOR INCIDENT waiting to happen. I see this has been reported by others too on this sight. I am concerned and baffled that it took the council just 6 MINUTES to reply to this serious major flaw in the filter lights.
Please address this immediately as a matter of urgency as clearly the council is wrong in stating the "positioning is correct" when evidence speaks otherwise.

Thank you for recently contacting Oxfordshire County Council regarding the Wolvercote roundabout traffic signal junction. The alignment of the signal heads onsite have been checked and found to be as intended. The project and traffic signals teams have previously exhausted the available options to amend the existing arrangement further and believe that the current arrangement is the best achievable at this site.

These traffic lights are not necessary there.
They are merely placed there, at a very dangerous and often confused junction of the roundabout - evident by similar concerns from others on this site, about the same set of lights - as a pedestrian crossing to and from the M&S and BMW garage.
They can be moved further down that same stretch of Woodstock road to make the junction safe for both, confused drivers and innocent pedestrians, trusting the 'green man' and crossing without due diligence.
