We have had reports of a collision between a cyclist and pedestrian on footpath 198/9 near to Sunnybank, can you please put up no cycling signs on the end of the footpath opposite Hanney chapel and at the Iron bridge before an injury is caused.

  • Thank you for your report. The installation of 'no cycling' signage would require the implementation of 'Traffic Regulation Order' which involves a long and expensive legal process including full consultation, cycling on the footpath is an offence under the Highways Act 1835, for these reasons we would only positively sign either a shared cycle/pedestrian route or a segregated cycle/pedestrian route, i regret that we would therefore not provide teh 'no cycling' signage that you have requested.
