Yellow lines needed
Reported in the Road Markings category anonymously at 10:41, Wed 8 May 2019
Sent to Oxfordshire County Council 4 minutes later
I submitted a problem to Oxfordshire Highways using Fix My Street. All that happened is that they forwarded it to WODC. However the problem is not able to be dealt with by WODC. At the bottom of the Sylvester Close Burford OX18 4RU is a Keep Clear area so that delivery lorries, bin lorries, oil tankers, etc have space to turn around at the end of this cul de sac. Someone has decided that this is a handy place to park presumably knowing that WODC can do nothing about this as parking in Keep Clear areas is apparently not an offence. Can we please have yellow lines painted here so that the WODC wardens are able to stop people parking here. Thank you for your report. We have assessed it and found that it does not currently meet the criteria for intervention, so will not be fixing at this time.
"Yellow lines.
To introduce double yellow lines we need to promote a Traffic Regulation Order.
This is a process whereby an Order is drafted by our Legal Department, describing the proposed restriction. This will be advertised during a formal consultation process and comments invited. If no objections are received, the Order can be brought into operation with lining and signs on the ground. If there are objections, these will be reported at the appropriate Committee where a decision will be made taking into account levels of support and objections.
The cost for this is £3120 to cover legal work, consultation and associated procedural / administrative functions. On top is the cost of lining and signing work. The County has no resources for this work as a County scheme but is able to pursue if external funding is made available. We work this way with local Towns and Parishes who wish to promote such restrictions. The onus is on them to propose a scheme which suits their local needs and then we can act in an advisory capacity and carry out the required legal aspects. All this can take anywhere from 6 month to a year. You may wish to take this up with your local Parish or Town Council who may be aware of other similar requests.
