Absolutely Ridiculous and Devastating Construction at Mongewell Roundabout

Reported in the Current Roadworks category anonymously at 12:29, Wed 1 May 2019

Sent to Oxfordshire County Council 2 minutes later

Mongewell Roundabout

The Construction permission for works near the roundabout has been devastating. The delay to get past this roundabout is anywhere from 15-30 minutes. It has caused traffic to overflow into Wallingford and local areas as drivers desperately try to avoid the area.

However, when driving by there is often no actual work ongoing. Also, the work area is sufficiently limited at most times that 2 way traffic would be safely possible, either with automated lights or sign/safety personnel could be more effectively controlled the flow of traffic.

When construction companies cause such a major disturbance to the people living and working in the area the total cost should be considered when determining how long and in what manner they are allowed to restrict travel. It is simply not acceptable that I lose an extra 45-60 mins each day because the construction company wants to save cost.

Shall we all engage in legal action to recover lost earnings? How many hundreds of people unnecessarily lose productive work time or family time for this? How much extra fuel is consumed, extra pollution generated, and extra stress added. This all adds cost, cost not seen by the construction company or the council.

This site should be wrapped up immediately and the company and council should apologize for allowing it to have occurred like this.
