Trench in footpath left uncovered and without safety barriers

Reported in the Roads/highways category anonymously at 22:28, Thursday 18 April 2019

Sent to Oxfordshire County Council 2 minutes later

High Street Stanford in the Vale: Contractors, supplying electric to the CoOp have left a trench unmarked along the footpath in High Street. Apparently they will not be returning until after the 4 day Easter Weekend. Although footpath closed signs have been placed at either end of the trench, there are no barriers along the length of the trench, which extends for a long stretch of the High Street - so there is nothing to stop people crossing the road from the CoOp and coming across this significant trip and fall hazard. The trench also crosses the main entrance to the Primary School (the school reopens on Tuesday). The Parish Council have installed temporary bollards and tape to warn pedestrians walking in this area but it still poses a significant risk. It is not acceptable to leave works without adequate safety barriers and without a contact out of hours number.
