Traffic can not pass

Reported anonymously at 15:33, Wednesday 17 April 2019

Sent to Oxford City Council and Oxfordshire County Council 2 minutes later

Due to the warm weather many people are visiting Florence Park. As the gates are not open to allow people to park inside park, everyone is parking on Rymers Lane. They are parked on both sides of the road creating a situation where traffic can’t pass each other or pull over to allow others to park. I need to access St Gregory the great school but I am not able to do so in my van as traffic have blocked the road. It is not yet rush hour and the traffic is already terrible due to this

  • Thank you for reporting this issue. However, in Oxford City, vehicles contravening parking controls should be reported to Oxfordshire County Councils Parking Services on 03453371138 Option 3. However if a vehicle is causing an obstruction you will need to contact Thames Valley Police on their non-emergency number - 101

State changed to: not the council's responsibility

  • The parked vehicles are not contravening parking controls as there are no lines on either side of Rymers Lane, therefore anyone can park. Vehicles are not obstructing the road as such, as they are simply parked on both sides of the road. The problem has arisen because of the large number of parked cars parked bumper to bumper and no room to pull over to allow traffic to pass. This has occurred due to large number of visitors to Florence Park in warm weather and the gates to the park are shut. Why not reopen the gates? The amount of parked traffic was not a problem when visitors could park inside the park. Therefore this problem has been caused by a council decision to no longer allow parking in the park's car park. Please let me know your further thoughts as access via Rymers Lane has been and will continue to be very problematic particularly during the Summer months. Mrs Hilary Lovette

  • The car park has now been open as of the 1st of May. This is a seasons car park which is made available for use between the months of May and September.
