Dangerous fence/walkway

Reported anonymously at 08:50, Sunday 10 March 2019

Sent to Oxfordshire County Council and South Oxfordshire District Council 5 minutes later

I live on Sycamore Rise a new housing development and would like to report an issue to you which is of great concern to myself and a number of other residents also living here.

There is a walkway which has been left unfinished on the estate which leads to a bush. This walkway, if completed, would provide a safe route to the opposite road which leads to the local school. However, because it is not finished it only leaves a very dangerous walk past a busy major road which 4 junctions for us to ferry young children across. There has been several near misses of children being knocked down. There is also a disused fence which runs along the walkway which has barbed wire along the top (as it used to be a sheep field). Again children are climbing this fence daily in order to access the road to school avoiding the busy road and it is only a matter of time before someone becomes seriously injured.

The builders, Persimmons have recently removed one panel in the disused fence to allow parents and children access as they understood the safety risks and concerns, however, the very same day another resident living opposite the fence has rewired the fence hence preventing the access again.

This fence does not belong to the resident in question and I would ask if you could either: A) remove the fence completely. B) inform the resident to remove their wire or C) ensure that the planned walkway leading to the bush is finished before a fatally occurs.

I attach photos for your perusal.

I look forward to a response to my email and a satisfactory outcome to the issue.

Kind regards
