Road markings wrong

Reported in the Road Traffic Signs and Road Markings category by Michelle Lifely at 21:52, Monday 11 February 2019

Sent to Oxfordshire County Council 2 minutes later

From Bicester if you follow the A41 to Aylesbury, the outside lane for the roundabout is marked for A41, but the lane has no exit to the A41 and people are cutting into the middle lane to exit the roundabout when they realise their lane doesn’t go that way and it’s causing a lot of near misses.

  • Hello i hope you can help me. My name is Les Cross and i live at . 25 Millfield Avenue. Marsh Gibbon . Bicester. Oxon OX270HP email lescross2014@gmail.com 07464747180 I have serious concerns over the safety and markings to the Rodney house roundabout on the A41. Could the council please acknowledge receipt of this correspondance so i know it has hopefully found the right dept. On 6th of Feb my wife attempted to navigate the roundabout coming from Aylesbury direction and intended to turn right down the london rd taking the 3rd exit of roundabout. My wife was in the right hand lane, arrows on road show straight ahead. Another car was in the middle lane again arrows on road show straight ahead. The lights go to green and both cars stop at the second set of lights to allow traffic to come from new Graven hill development. At this junction arrows shown on road that right and middle lanes to go straight ahead and also right? At this point when lights go green my wife pulls away and indicates to turn left at the london rd exit the next turning off. The car on the left of her thats in the middle lane carries on round right to turn off down the Langford rd and hits her. Our car is now severly damaged fortunately my wife is not. The bloke driving the car that hit my wife is convinced that he was in the correct lane, despite pulling up to a roundabout to turn right but being in the middle lane? Can someone throw any light on why the road markings are so wrongly or confusingly marked, from what i can ascertain there must be accidents on a daily basis. I would also like to point out as my wife has to date lost the use of her car that she needs to care for old people in the community. Lost a days pay as she was to shook up to get to work. Lost her voluntary excess on her insurance policy. And the next time she renews her insurance it going to reflect £4000.00 repair bill She has never had an accident up to know and i feel this is down to incorrect road markings. Could somebody please look at the present road markings and give me some confidence that whoever decided on this layout are happy in the knowledge that this roundabout is causing chaos heart ache and impacting on peoples lives. Finally would you happen to know how many accidents are being reported at the aforementioned roundabout. yours in hope Les and Alison Cross

  • Road markings don’t allow to to move across lanes when on the roundabout- never seen such bad lane markings in 35 years of driving

  • Lights need to be reset to allow traffic from Langford village to go around to at least the Bicester village turn off. Sometimes the lights change to red before the Langford ones which results in cars on the roundabout which blocks lane to A41. More signs not sure people realise the traffic lights are now working as lot jumping the lights

  • The roundabout at Rodney House (Graven Hill) is badly marked and extremely dangerous. The lights are badly synchronised and there are many near misses here. This has got to be sorted, preferably by someone who knows what they are doing.

  • I can see that this has been reported already on numerous occasions but still nothing has been done. I travel from Oxford to Aylesbury every day and this roundabout is a nightmare. The lane markings and traffic lights make no sense, especially coming from Bicester village and taking the third exit to Aylesbury. People don't understand the lanes and are always cutting each other up, it's a serious accident waiting to happen.

    Is this actually being investigated?

    Thank you.

  • I travel this junction every day, and today i was nearly run of the road by a HGV who was correctly positioned in relation to the road markings, however as reported here these are wrong.

These need to be repaired as a matter of urgency because it is only a matter of time before there is an accident here.

Who will be responsible if someone is seriously injured? or worse killed as a result.

Oxfordshire council, please have this rectified as soon as possible. go and monitor this junction during a busy period and watch it first hand.

  • I must use this roundabout on a daily basis. If I go round a different route it can take anywhere between 15-20 mins extra for my journey.

But this location is a deathtrap waiting to happen. Before the traffic light system came into effect people didn't realise that they needed to give way. Constantly having vehicles pull into the roundabout nearly causing a crash.

Since the new markings and the traffic light system have been in place it hasn't improved. Markings on the road all wrong. Road signs don't match. Traffic lights don't phase correctly. Having left hand turns and right hand turns only in places. To then have no room to move as other people are cutting you up thinking they are in the right lane.

It's not big enough to have 3 lanes. 2 lanes is plenty enough.

  • Horrendous roundabout, much much worse after all of the recent roadworks. Road layout & lanes are confusing. I have seen lots of near misses and accidents. The traffic lights are unnecessary and have added 5-10 minutes on to my journey time. Please review and revert back to previous road layout. It worked, traffic moved smoothly and safely thanks
