Traffic lights for cycle route cross not functioning

Reported in the Traffic Lights (permanent only) category by Kathryn Fletcher at 09:41, Wednesday 30 January 2019

Sent to Oxfordshire County Council 3 minutes later

The tunnel under the railway and the traffic lights and crossing were installed over a year ago to complete a safe cycle route from Didcot to the western end of Milton Park business park. However the lights are covered up and the crossing marked "not in use".

I see 2 -3 cyclist running the traffic gauntlet of cars and heavy at 50-60 mph across the A4130 to access the underpass each time I cycle. It must be only a matter of time before someone is hit by a motorist.

Why has this key cycle route crossing not be turned on for a year after it was installed?

Updates

  • There is a usable pedestrian crossing further back by the main junction. I suspect these lights are too close to the main junction to be permitted.

    State changed to: Fixed

  • The so-called "usable pedestrian crossing" is over 200 metres further away from Didcot, and involves two road crossings. This adds 400m - nearly 10% longer - to the 5km cycle journey from Didcot !!
