Damaged pavement hazardous to wheelchairs
Reported in the Footways and Pavement damage category anonymously at 16:03, Thu 24 January 2019
Sent to Oxfordshire County Council 2 minutes later
There is a deep ‘crease’ on the pavement at the side of and from the fire station and the other end of the police station. It is a deep groove in the middle of the pavement that as been there for 2 years plus and, in no way an exaggeration, very nearly caused wheelchairs of the people I have been pushing, to, after getting caught, topple over. This has been both frightening and painful for the people involved, who have expressed fear at this part of pavement. It requires an unnecessary amount of careful navigating to get across this bit of pavement without getting stuck. One of these days our luck will run out and someone will incur some serious head injury. This needs sorting now, before someone gets seriously hurt, or worse. It is also hazardous to another lady who I work with, who has a walker, which also gets stuck, too. Whilst not in a wheelchair, she also has learning disability, is an older lady and had slow reflexes; if she falls, she may not be able to catch herself quick enough. The bit of ‘safe’ pavement is so slim, that going across the groove is pretty much inevitable.

Thank you for your report. I have forwarded this for resurfacing but I cannot guarantee when or even if it will get done. I will also stress your concerns about the people under your care. The problem is budget shortage and there are many sites in a far worse condition which will get priority but I will make the case

This problem has not been fixed and has now damaged a wheel of the wheelchair of the vulnerable person I was supporting, last week. This was her temporary wheelchair whilst her other one was being repaired, so she can now no longer leave the house. Please; you need to fix this!
