Raised drain on cycle lane cannot be seem

Reported in the Road Traffic Signs and Road Markings category by Chris Pearson at 19:21, Friday 11 January 2019

Sent to Oxfordshire County Council 4 minutes later

On the corner of the cycle lane going around the Sainsbury’s roundabout there is a manhole cover which is above the level of the pavement which is not visible, particularly after the sun has set. I have observed cyclists hitting this raised manhole in the evening recently and nearly come off their bike because it is not visible. Please can this raised section of cycle lane be highlighted somehow or accidents will occur. Many thanks.

  • Thank you for your report. Would you be able to provide a bit more information to enable me to find the correct location on my site visit For example a house number/property name.

  • Good morning, the issue is on the cycle lane, and so there are no houses on it. However, this link to google maps ( maps/ @51.7223567,-1.2354267,3a,51.3y,56.59h,77.21t/ data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1sxD5EE0idm4RYLfSQnYvlwQ!2e0!7i13312!8i6656) should display a man hole cover just off the cycle lane. However just in front of the cover is a raised section of concrete which comes out about 1/3 of the way into the cycle lane right as the cycle lane turns. In the light this raised concrete is hard to see when cycling towards it, in the dark it is impossible unless you know it is there. I hope this is helpful. Many thanks!

  • Apologies, the link doesnt seem to be working, this one might be better maps/ 9JUxeSzWT2U2 But if not, I have attached a street view image from this location which should make it relatively easy to see. It is a street view from the ring road looking towards the cycle lane.
