Roadworks on the A338 between Jet garage and Williams F1
Reported in the Roads and Carriageways category anonymously at 08:07, Tue 8 January 2019
Sent to Oxfordshire County Council 3 minutes later
These roadworks are due to be ongoing until mid-March 2019, but are already causing significant delays during rush hour both travelling to and from Wantage and Grove in the mornings and evenings. I have been forced to adjust my working hours to compensate for the disruption.
Please can Oxfordshire County Council ensure the traffic lights at these roadworks are manually operated at peak times to try to prevent huge tailbacks, and do whatever necessary to escalate the speed at which they are resolved.

Queues this morning at 7am heading to Oxford, stretching back to Wantage, yet next to nothing (3-4 cars) coming the other way.
Likewise last night (circa 6pm), queues to Hanney, and next to nothing the other way. I attach a Google traffic view of this.
Please just phase the lights a little better, or man them around these times.

It looked like someone was manning the lights at 7:20am but north bound and coming out of Grove was significantly backed up, whilst south bound were being let through as they met the lights. This is not working to keep a steady flow of traffic going.

I joined the queue this morning on Oxford Lane (just off the mini roundabout from Denchworth Road) at 7.05am. The traffic was not moving because it has to join the flow of traffic coming from Wantage on the A338. Ridiculous.

As you can see the problem persists. All the while you're "investigating" people are sat in the queue wasting time, and pumping out pollution.
Please resolve this as a matter of urgency.

Whats frustrating is that with better planning the amount of time could be reduced. Thames water doing work now but the other work (electricity, gas, highways) won't start until they are finished. looking at the site there is definitely room for more than one contractor to be working.
Even more frustrating is that when I drove past at 1545 they were packed up ready to go home.

Someone was on the lights at around 7:!5 this morning, clearly switching them between, and I'm sure it's marginally better, but he still managed to have 1 car waiting Southbound and entire queue back into Wantage northbound.
Is this really the best we can do?

Please man these lights during rush hour (more cars through in the morning towards hanney...more cars through in the evening towards grove) Hardly rocket science.. it's a joke.

I don't think he is Manning the lights more sitting next to them playing on his phone. It's a joke. No cars one side 2 mile queue the other.

Oxfordshire County Council closed this issue claiming it is not their responsibility. I dispute this. They signed off on these roadworks and gave permission for them to last however long. They should be aware of how much disruption they are causing.

Significant queues with three cars waiting in the opposite (Hanney) direction this morning. The people working the lights were looking at their phones, not the traffic. Extremely frustrating.

The lights are now back and set up 3 way. Tonight between 6.30 and 7.20 it took my partner 50 minutes to get through the lights. Cars queuing back to Hanney, no cars coming out of Williams and half a dozen cars travelling from Grove to Hanney direction. Causing such a disruption to people’s lives because someone doesn’t have the intelligence to think that these lights don’t need to be on green for same amount of time for the 3 entrances to the road - partner being late and not seeing his children before they go to sleep and I’m having to adjust my working hours so I can ensure I pick my children up on time.

I was in the same queue from Hanney tonight, despite not getting the to Hanney until 6:25pm (outside the traditional rush hour), it took over 45 minutes to get the rest of the way. And no, practically nothing queued coming the other two ways.
Why do we have to be guinea pigs? Why do they have to cause such jams before something is done? And moreover why do the council feel its nothing to do with them? Disgusting all round!

I passed through at 4.55pm this afternoon and although I did not have to wait too long, I was frustrated by the fact that there was no work force present and absolutely no need for the barriers sectioning off part of the road because no work had been started.

Another commuter here sat in the trafgic lights for 45 minutes from Hanney from 6.10 - 6.55. No work had been done so yo have three way lights for an empty works area wad extremely frustrating. Please return to 2 way traffic and manning the lights at peak time.

I was travelling towards Oxford this morning and it has taken nearly 30 minutes. The queue in the mirror went as far as I could see and when we finally passed the queue going to wards Wantage back nearly up to Hanney. Sort it out

Long delays even at 5:00 am this morning due to traffic lights not sequencing correctly to manage traffic flow.

Needs to be manually controlled from 7:00. This is blocking an OCC school bus, 60 kids 20 minutes late to school as a result.

Can someone please ask the designated person who’s supposed to be manning the lights to actually do his job, rather than sitting in his car on his phone. I was 20 minutes late for work this morning and I was half an hour late collecting my daughter from Pre-school tonight as the traffic coming into Wantage was queuing as far back as the main road from Frilford.

The roadworks are overrunning by a month and are currently due to complete by the end of April. The whole saga has been one long exercise in frustration. Oxfordshire County Council have washed their hands of responsibility but local elections are coming up in May and I hope locals make their displeasure known at the ballot box.

Cars queuing back to Wantage and the lights have only let 10 cars through and then switch back to let cars through from oxford direction when there are only 10 cars queuing on that side!
