Street light out placing pedestrian at risk

Street light out of order. This is a residential area, poorly lit.

Thank you for contacting Oxfordshire County Council Street lighting, unfortunately we are currently only available to respond to emergency situations which may have an impact on the health and safety of members of the public, these will be dealt with within a 24 hour period.
Reported faults will continue to be registered on our management system and these will be tackled in coming months.

  • Thank you for your report, to enable us to log the fault to the correct unit can you please advise using the attached map the street light number you are referring to. If the unit is not on the map this would not be owned/maintained by Oxfordshire County Council and would need to be reported to the developer/landowner direct. Unfortunately we do not keep records of private lights.

  • This street light came back on for a short time, but is now not operating at all. As you can see this has a safety Impact. I am a nurse so I leave very early for work and often return home after 10.30 pm. This street is poorly lit at the best of time and is a risk to the elderly people who,live in retirement bungalows in the road too.

  • I noticed the light was fixed circa Monday 25th Feb. Unfortunately the replacement bulb is far too bright and is much brighter than the light it replaced. It is so bright it feels as though car headlights are shining on my home and and is illuminating the bedrooms even with the blinds closed. Consequently we are struggling to sleep and this is becoming distressing. Please urgently replace with a less bright lamp, and one that has a lower colour temperature, i.e yellow, not white.

  • Many thanks for the report and sorry to hear this issue regarding the lighting. Due to manufacturers now focusing on LED products we now have to replace failed units with LED solutions where possible due to older parts becoming obsolete. This also helps with our carbon footprint due to a lower output. Im sorry to hear this is now causing a glare issue. It might be a case that we can paint out part of the bowl to assist in blocking the light shining back, is your property in front or behind the streetlight ? as i can arrange for that section to be blocked out

  • Thank you for the update, i will raise a fault now to paint the back of the lantern bowl , hopefully this rectifies the issue , any further issues please contact us , sorry again for the inconvenience

  • I note the back of the bowl was painted at the end of last week - thank you. Unfortunately whilst this has dimmed the area immediately behind the lamp post it has had little effect on the light coming through our main bedroom windows. I think part of the problem is the lamp is both very white in colour and bright. Is it possible to fit a lamp that has a lower lumen rating and a lower colour temperature (say less than 2200K)? Is it possible to contact you directly to discuss?
