Copper Beech tree with potential structural defects
Reported in the Report a tree problem category anonymously at 16:16, Fri 21 December 2018
Sent to Oxfordshire County Council 16 hours, 39 minutes later
The tree is a mature copper beech located adjacent to the war memorial in Waterstock, to the North East of Road Running Through Waterstock and to the West of a property called By The Pond, Waterstock.
On closer inspection of the tree, I observed decay fungi on the base of the east of the tree and at 2m above ground level on south side of the stem of the tree, between 2 large branches. Decay was also observed between 2 buttress roots on the South side of the tree at ground level. The fungi may be a species of Ganoderma but it is difficult to be sure without analysis.
Due to the proximity of the tree to the adjacent highway, it is recommended that Oxfordshire County Council Highways make a detailed assessment of the tree to determine the appropriate course of action. Due to the tree being in a Conservation Area and prominent in the landscape, I would appreciate if you could advise me of any works to the tree.
