Phasing of Mably Way traffic lights is wrong

Reported in the Traffic Lights (permanent only) category by Stockham Park Ranger at 09:57, Sat 8 December 2018

Sent to Oxfordshire County Council 2 minutes later

The traffic light controlled crossing outside the Health Centre has a ridiculously long delay on it. Pedestrians pop out of the footpath from the Health Centre and press the button, then stand and wait... and wait.. a gap in traffic appears and they cross, then - once they have disappeared out of sight - the lights finally change to red.

This causes frustration for both pedestrians and drivers.

Please adjust the timing so that the lights turn to red within a few seconds of the button being pushed.

Thank you.

  • Thank you for contacting Oxfordshire County Council Traffic Signals. I have checked our records together with the sites operation and found it to be working as intended without any current faults. The crossing runs Vehicle Actuated operation, which means that when the pedestrian button is pressed the crossing will look for a gaps in the oncoming vehicles before changing to the pedestrian green. There is a maximum green time for vehicles approaching the crossings which I confirm is set to 24 seconds and is in line with other crossings of its type and location. If the button is pressed and there are no vehicles approaching the crossing then the signals will then change to the pedestrian green man.
