The street lighting was replaced due to the columns coming to the end of their structural life and required replacing; Oxfordshire County Council (OCC) policy is to use the newest technology available to help reduce energy and maintenance costs, which includes LED lighting.
The streetlights were changed one for one with the white light LED units, these units are designed to direct the light onto the road which helps reduce unwanted and obtrusive light. Comparing the light footprint of the old lights and the new, there is typically the same amount if not more light on the road, but not as much light reaching residents’ gardens and front doors.
I can fully appreciate the concerns raised by yourself and fellow residents, but due to increasing energy prices and reduced budgets this is now the equipment specified by OCC.

I been passing this place tonight, I been wondering why the streets lights not working there, they seems to be forgotten. Both sides of subway Southern Bypass Road (A34) are dark. The issue actually starts from A34 southbound, exit to Yarnell's Road (where is lamp no.1) to N Hinksey Lane (where is lamp 21), all along A34 - for pedestrians - MOST of them not working! Please, could you look at the issue?
