Desperately needs a yellow box junction to allow for the flow of traffic
Reported in the Road Markings category by Duarte Molha at 19:48, Sun 25 November 2018
Sent to Oxfordshire County Council 3 minutes later
With the opening of the additional shops in Didcot and increased traffic (especialy on weekends) that junction get clogged with cars disrespecting the rules and basically most of the traffic from the tunnel gets blocked from going in either West or east direction.
We need a yellow box junction that makes it clear and a bookable offense to stop over it preventing other cars from navigating the junction

What is needed is for the 2 lanes at the traffic lights by Cow Lane to be extended all the way towards the Orchard Centre traffic lights. At the moment, 2 lanes merge into one for about 20 metres, and then back to 2 lanes again. This creates a pinch and people heading past the Orchard Centre cannot get through. There is a huge wide footpath and cycle path on each side of the road which very few people use, so there is easily enough space to widen this road and solve the problem. Traffic gets backed up way past the station and beyond at weekends because of this pinch point.

It is true that the lane constriction does not help... but the two are not mutually exclusive. There is not reason to block the junction so that you have move 20 meters forward and by doing that making the life difficult to everyone trying to leave ladygrove through the tunnel or worse, blocking the pedestrian crossing because you would not wait for the next green light (I say this because just this Saturday I saw a car in the middle of the pedestrian crossing and a lady in a mobility scooter need to go around him ... all of us in fact) combine that with the fact that this pedestrian green signal stays on for about 5 seconds and you can see how that is endangering people.
The yellow box is not an additional rule ... it is just highlighting a rule of driving... you do not block a junction ... if there is no space in after it you wait until there is. The reason people don't respect this is because they think if they don't , others coming form other directions in the junction will ... the yellow marking alleviates this behavior

Road rule 170 regarding junctions: "look all around before emerging. Do not cross or join a road until there is a gap large enough for you to do so safely." A box junction just makes this rule obvious with the risk of fines for those that ignore it
