Badly sited traffic signal set
Reported in the Traffic Lights (permanent only) category anonymously at 12:00, Tue 20 November 2018
Sent to Oxfordshire County Council 1 minute later
The secondary signal set on the North side of Old Road is still confusing drivers turning Left out of Churchill Drive. They think that if someone is standing beneath this set, that they have to stop when it shows Red to let them cross the road. This is dangerous, bcause it is also confusing those waiting to cross against the Red Crossing Lights with the Push Button and Halo lights. Can this signal set be taken down and installed on the pole outside the Vicarage please (the one with the CCTV camera on it), and face it East against the traffic its meant for. Can you also please explain why the Entrance / Exit to the Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre in Old Road wasn't given its own set of lights, given the amount of heavy vehicles now using it including Buses..

I've just added some pictures to illustrate this. I was/am one of those drivers under the impression that I had to stop at those lights when turning left off Churchill drive. I think this is because it is difficult to see whether the pedestrian lights are red or green.
This is compounded by the fact that previously, before the redesign, there was a red light and solid line just before the pedestrian crossing and turning off Churchill drive was not controlled by lights. Old habits die hard I suppose.

Thank you for your enquiry. We are aware of the issue and have instructed our contractor to install a fix which will make it much harder to see a red light when turning out of Churchill Drive and prevent incorrect stopping at the crossing. The NOC entrance isn't signalised as the frequency of demand doesn't warrant it. It also would make the junction bigger which makes it more inefficient.
