Surface Dressing applied on the B4100 road in the Summer was not finished
Reported in the Roads and Carriageways category by Shaun Burton at 06:41, Tue 13 November 2018
Sent to Oxfordshire County Council 4 minutes later
The B4100 road between Baynards Green and Upper Aynho Grounds had surface dressing applied in the Summer. Sufficient sweeping up of the surplus loose chippings was not carried out afterwards which is evidenced by the large amount of loose chippings on the junction with the Fritwell road. This is a serious hazard for motorcyclists. The entire length of the treated surface has lots of loose surplus chippings which are constantly being thrown up by other vehicles leading to damage to vehicles travelling behind or in the other direction. My car has suffered three windscreen chips, multiple paint chips and damage to the underside caused by the constant shotblasting effect from small chippings being thrown up by the tyres. The road desperately needs sweeping to clear the loose chippings, and which should have been done as part of the standard procedure in the Summer.

Please be aware that you risk damage to your car windscreen and paintwork if your drive on this stretch of road. Chippings are constantly thrown up by vehicles passing in the opposite direction. Motorcyclists need to be very aware of the mass of loose chippings at the junction of the road to Fritwell.

Nothing has been done to fix this problem. Last week, a friend of mine had to have the windscreen replaced in their car due to damage, (20cm crack), caused by loose chippings thrown up by other vehicles on this section of road. I have started to use the road between Fritwell and Souldern as an alternative but that road is full of potholes, which you are forced to drive over/through if you meet traffic travelling in the opposite direction. The condition of these roads is a disgrace and represents a serious safety issue for car and motorcyle users. Damage to your vehicle is extremely likely.

The main road has improved with traffic use but the verges and junctions are still covered in deep piles of loose stones. The junctions are particularly hazardous for two wheeled users.

The actual road has cleared as the chippings have been ground down/flung off the road. The junctions onto the road, however, are still covered in deep piles of loose gravel.

The junctions still have large deep piles of gravel. Whilst the damage risk from flying gravel has reduced there is still a severe skid risk, especially for two wheeled users.
