Poor or limited lighting along pedestrian link between Post Office Lane and Eagles Close
Reported in the Street lighting category anonymously at 16:57, Thu 8 November 2018
Sent to Oxfordshire County Council 3 minutes later
Post Office Lane leading to the pedestrian only lane that goes along Eagles Close up to the back of the Fire Station has very limited lighting or no lighting in parts. To make it feel safer for pedestrians could the lighting along here be reviewed as where it is dark and not overlooked it can feel unsafe. Thank you

Thank you for your report, to enable us to log the fault to the correct unit can you please advise using the attached map the street light number you are referring to. If the unit is not on the map this would not be owned/maintained by Oxfordshire County Council and would need to be reported to the developer/landowner direct. Unfortunately we do not keep records of private lights.

I attach a picture showing the limited amount of lighting down this walkway. There are no lamps in this first section. Could some lighting be fitted?

Unfortunately Oxfordshire County Council does not have any funds available at this time to install additional lighting as our street lighting budget is used for the energy, cost and maintenance of our existing street lights.
However if the Parish Council were prepared to fund the initial installation /servicing costs and pay a commuted sum (this is an upfront sum to cover future maintenance costs) we would be prepared to take on future energy and maintenance costs for that lighting as long as it is installed on the public highway and to our specification.
In rural areas new lighting will only be provided in consultation with the local councils. A test will be whether it is necessary (for road safety or security reasons), affordable and sustainable
It may also be worth contacting Thames Valley Police to see if they would be prepared to fund the initial installation and servicing costs if this area is known as an accident ‘hotspot’ or if it is an anti-social behaviour area.
Please accept our apologies that we cannot assist any further at this time.
