Treebranches are growing over road
Reported in the Report a tree problem category anonymously at 22:14, Fri 26 October 2018
Sent to Oxfordshire County Council 1 minute later
In the stratch from the A40 including the first corner on Kingston Hill trees have been allowed to grow onto the road, pushing traffic to the middle of a narrow road. The trees also obscure the view in the corner and drivers only spot opposing traffic late.
For safety reasons I would cut this back around 2 metres

If it is not the county council who is responsible, where should I sent this report? I was of the impression that you would oversee the road and anything that affected the road, but correct me if I am wrong.

Thank you for your report. Trees on private property are the responsibility of the owners to maintain. Part of the road also falls into the neighbbouring county. The owners have been informed of their responsibilities.

Thanks for the feedback, but not much is happening. I can understand it is the landowners responsibility, but not only here, but various other places roads get narrower and traffic pushed towards the middle, thus increasing the chance of hits (or damage from trees). Is there nothing that can be done to "incentivise" landowners to take action?

I believe the following is the case: If the owner/occupier does not take corrective action within a reasonable time (the Local Authority will normally specific a time limit for the work to be completed), the Local Authority can issue a formal notice for the work to be undertaken, and if that is ignored, they can do the work and charge the owner/occupier.
So can action not be instigated? It seems the land owner is not interested in trimming voluntarily.
