Verge markers
Reported via iOS in the Road Markings category by Peter frost at 08:57, Wed 12 September 2018
Sent to Oxfordshire County Council 1 hour later
Sirs, There's a few problems with this newly installed forest of verge markers. 1)They obstruct the highway viz closer than 450mm from the carriageway 2)They should be proceeded by a road narrows as they are unsited due to the bend. 3)A long vehicle would make a chord overrunning the markers. If the intention was to protect the verge a kerb might have done better along with a 651 sign. I'd give them 3 months!

There has been no further response and the issue has been raised with the local councillor. If highways believe obstructing the line of sight on the inside of a bend immediately prior to a poorly visible junction is an improvement what can I say! If highways believe that ignoring the TSM standards is acceptable and will not expose them to possible claims what can I say! If highways believe encouraging pedestrians to use this rough verge when there's a perfectly good alternative footpath or approved warning signage available what can I say!

The bollards were broken out and reset approximately 450mm from the carriageway edge. This verge has never been overrun to that extent and where it ever was not confined to the bend. That still leaves an obstructed sight line on the approach to a junction contrary to all principles of highway design OCC should be conversant and have resisted instruction from the parish lay representatives
