Huge pothole

Reported via iOS in the Pothole category anonymously at 00:39, Friday 20 July 2018

Sent to Oxfordshire County Council less than a minute later

The biggest of a series of potholes on or near the bend. This is the largest of all of them, and exceeds the required criteria for being a defect requiring repair, it is deeper than 40 mm and larger in diameter than 150 mm, not that I should have to prove this, however another report for a pothole here was supposedly checked and that status changed to ‘no further action’ on 6th June 2018, as apparently; “Thank you for your enquiry. I have visited the site and assessed the problem that you have identified. Unfortunately it doesn't meet our current intervention criteria so I cannot arrange a repair. We will continue to monitor this during our routine inspections.”

It’s dangerous for several reasons, being on a corner where cars can swerve to avoid it, or hit it and react or it unsettles the car, it’s dangerous to avoid it due to the over grown grass verge and lack of vision on a double white line. Considering how many accidents happened here recently, I would suggest every effort is made to make this stretch of road as safe as possible.

  • This is your last chance to do something about this. This is a disgrace, there are several defects, on a corner, it isn't going to improve, this is a major hazard at the best of times, let alone now we are experiencing rain, which masks major potholes under puddles. The solid white line has been worn away from people trying to avoid the series of potholes on the bend, someone will have a head on crash trying to miss the potholes. I refer you to the fact that I have already proved they do meet the criteria to be repaired as a defect, I would like to know who measured or inspected them and what they claim the sizes were then to not meet the criteria? Also no monitoring has taken place along this road at all since, as other major defects are also being ignored/missed. Was the recent road traffic incident near this bend caused by this.......?

  • Thank you for the same old copy and paste answer. That was a rapid and prompt inspection, if one did actually take place. I refer you to my previous question, "I would like to know who measured or inspected them and what they claim the sizes were then to not meet the criteria?"

By being all secretive about the sizes of what you claim constitutes a defect that you will act upon, and merely stating it does not meet them is not being transparent, I want proof of an inspection, who completed it and what sizes they measured, as are they even looking at the same defects in the road as I and other motorists have to avoid?

As previously stated, the monitoring and routine inspections are not working, if they even happen, as there are dangerous defects that have been present for ages, when reported something has been done about some of these, if the roads are monitored, these should have been spotted and repaired by yourselves.

I will be using these responses as evidence of the negligence on the part of Oxfordshire County Council when I need to claim for damage to my vehicle, or to help support another motorists claim, or as evidence should there be an accident as a result of or that it can be proven these defects contributed to.
