Incorrect Road Markings
Reported in the Road Markings category anonymously at 15:52, Tue 17 July 2018
Sent to Oxford City Council and Oxfordshire County Council 3 minutes later
Road markings on the Headington Roundabout are incorrect and can cause a fatal accident, due to the fact, cars in the Left hand lane are going to Barton as this is what is marked on the road. This is not correct, a bus and a van had both used the wrong lane towards Barton, using the Left hand lane instead on the middle lane as should be adapted following the highway code. This is not the first time this has happened and I fear this is going to cause a fatal accident to either myself or other road users. This needs to be amended as soon as possible.

The road signs are still incorrect. What’s being done to resolve this? Lane 1 says you can go to Barton, yet Lane 2 says you can go straight on. This will only cause accidents.

Accident caused today. A car in the middle lane coming from Cowley heading straight on towards Cuttleslowe involved in a collision with a car in the inside lane heading to Barton. Sign posted or not, it contradicts the Highway code and common sense. it’s inconceivable why a car in the inside lane should be directed to cross 3 lanes of a busy dual carriageway. It also makes no sense that when heading from Cowley towards kidlington there are 3 lanes to enter the roundabout and 3 lanes to exit and continue onto the eastern bypass but only the inside is to be used whereas if going to Barton which is a minor exit in comparison there are 2 lanes to exit, 1 of which crosses over the eastern bypass. When heading in the opposite direction, the inside lane is correctly signposted to turn to Barton or the inside lane of the A40 east, the middle lane is for the outside lane of the A40 east or the inside lane of the bypass and the outside lane is for the outside lane of the bypass or to turn right towards the London road and Headington. This is also the case on the Cuttleslowe roundabout What is the thinking behind driving in an anti clockwise direction onto Headington roundabout?

I see this happening daily. The system is so clearly flawed but the council seem to be too stubborn and pig headed to admit they are wrong. According to a recent article in the Oxford Mail the council claims its because of Barton Park but the entrance to Barton Park is on the ring road, not through Barton so that makes no sense. To keep the flow of traffic, you want more access to the busier road which is the ring road, not Barton. The signage is also only on approach to the roundabout and is therefore inadequate. Once on the roundabout, stopped at the lights, there is no signage, just road markings which are usually covered by other traffic. Will someone please review this before there is an unnecessary injury or death. Also, if it is believed this is the correct system, why is it not used going in the other direction, nor on any of the other roundabouts on the ring road?
