Pedestrian crossing - damaged
Reported in the Road Markings category anonymously at 17:12, Mon 9 July 2018
Sent to Oxfordshire County Council 3 minutes later
A orange beacon on the pedestrian crossing in Queens Avenue by the Hunt Close footpath has been missing for a number of weeks. The road markings have also deteriorated. This is perhaps why motorists frequently fail to stop for pedestrians to cross or carry on driving when pedestrians are already crossing. Can OCC please bring the crossing back up to the required standard.

5 weeks after being reported - no action has been taken. I use this crossing at least twice a day - cars frequently fail to stop for pedestrians - is their defence there isn't a beacon and they cant see that it is a crossing because the road markings have worn away? OCC - please chase up those responsible for sorting this out.

Ref: 345031 With regards to the beacon, I apologise this has not yet been rectified, the beacon has been ordered and arrived in stock. I will therefore chase our contractors for this to be fitted as soon as possible. Again with regards to the road markings this has been passed to our signs and lines team to rectify.

Many thanks for bringing this to us and sorry that the unit still hasn't been rectified. A fault was raised mid july to get a new bracket and beacon fitted, sadly the beacon bracket available didn't fit the post, so unfortunately we have ordered and had to wait for the new one, we now have this and hope it will fix the issue. We appreciate the concern and never want to leave beacons out of light, thank you for raising this again with us

30/9/18 17.10 White Mazda Reg MFB XX (remainder of registration available), being driven along Queens avenue towards roundabout at St Johns Street. Male driver made no attempt to slow down or stop for pedestrian waiting to use the crossing.
OCC please get the lighting fully fixed and road markings fully reinstated, then there should be no excuse for motorists failing to comply with the Highway Code.

Many thanks for raising this report and apologies again that this hasn't been fully rectified. We needed to order specialist lanterns which take a lead in of 8 weeks, sadly the company we ordered from have let us down with the order. We have managed to salvage 2 lanterns to replace both sides from a different company and this will be done as we receive the parts. I'm hoping the tail end of this week. Sorry in the inconvenience this has caused, we didn't intend for it to take this long to rectify and have ordered spares for storage in case this situation happens again. Unfortunately this happened at a time when multiple were hit in the county using up the stock we hold for this kind of incident. Thank you for bringing this problem to us

Looking through the problem logs, it seems that I am not alone in my concerns for the pedestrian crossing on Queen's Avenue. I cross here regularly both alone and with my children and honestly fear for my safety. Yet again tonight, I car was travelling at speed down Queen's Avenue and only just stopped in time to let us cross. Perhaps if the police stopped setting up their speed cameras on Oxford Road and instead concentrated on what is happening on their doorstep, things might change for their better. There is obviously something wrong with this pedestrian crossing and something needs to be done. Does someone have to be killed or injured before the council will take any action?

26/10/18 - Crossing markings still haven't been dealt with and are considerably faded. Some motorists continue to fail to wait for pedestrians on the crossing.

An order has been sent to OCC lining contractor however funding for this year has been largely committed so this may not get done until next year.
