Oxfordshire County Council (OCC) policy is to use the newest technology available to help reduce energy and maintenance costs, which includes LED lighting.
The streetlights were changed one for one with the white light LED units, these units are designed to direct the light onto the road which helps reduce unwanted and obtrusive light. Comparing the light footprint of the old lights and the new, there is typically the same amount if not more light on the road, but not as much light reaching residents’ gardens and front doors. Due to increasing energy prices and reduced budgets this is now the equipment specified by OCC .

Thank you for this explanation. However I would have to disagree with your assumption that the light is now less obtrusive. May daughter has had significant difficulty sleeping since this light was installed. This was never an issue with the previous lighting. I am also aware other families having difficulties in other areas where I have since learnt this type of lighting has been installed.

Can you please advise your house number or the unit number concerned so I can ask our inspector to investigate. Thank you
