A group of 3 potholes developing in Radley Road, North of Audlett Drive Roundabout

Reported in the Pothole category anonymously at 19:04, Tue 3 April 2018

Sent to Oxfordshire County Council 1 minute later

1) A batch of 3 potholes is developing on the Radley Road, North of the Audlett Drive/Radley Road/Twelve Acre Drive Roundabout. These are on the Abingdon bound side of the road. The largest pothole is at least 60cm in length (estimated), and is separated from 2 other potholes (either side) by a distance of 30cm (estimated). Sorry. Due to the position no photo is yet possible. 2) These potholes are a bit further on in the road (i.e. closer to Radley) than a repaired bit of road which looks as though it was repaired after utilities (?) were installed. This long stretch of "repair" is failing in a number of places and needs assessment.

Updates

  • Photos now added illustrating the issues and helping ID the location. The largest of the 3 potholes is 60cm+ in length, and a few cm deep. See photo. The "repaired" bit of road previously mentioned is shown in the photo with the "trench" area. The main worn away bit of road isntt clear on the photo, but the photo will help identify the feature.

  • Large group of Potholes ruining my tyres as I drive through every morning. Potholes cannot be swerved as too close to see cars coming on the other side of the road from the roundabout. Going round them is dangerous as could cause an accident. One pothole is particularly large and will start causing tyres to burst

  • An earlier update to this report included photographs showing the location of the issues. The potholes have not been fixed and are deteriorating. I see that another driver has also given an update expressing concern. Please can the issues be addressed soon? There are no markings around the potholes (on both sides of the road) to indicate that the Council have identified the issues.

  • These are becoming an increasingly serious problems: 1) The potholes on the Abingdon-bound side of the road are deteriorating, and specifically becoming much deeper (est. 5cm + in depth). No repair has been undertaken, nor are the potholes marked for work. **URGENT assessment is required.** 2) The potholes on the Radley bound side of the road (closer to the roundabout) are also deteriorating and becoming deeper. These are less 'obvious' than the potholes on the Abingdon bound side of the carriageway and are located in a stretch of road which may have been previously repaired or was resurfaced for utilities installation? (A "trench" is visible form the road). - A photograph showing the location was uploaded previously. - As stated these problems are on the road North of the Audlett Drive/Radley Road/Twelve Acre Drive Roundabout on the link to Radley (next to the field). Formally this is the Radley Road, Abingdon, but as it is North of the Abingdon ring road it is thought of as Radley. The Road is on the 35 Bus route, and therefore gets lots of wear and tear. A major hazard for cyclists.

The previously uploaded photo helps identify the location of the issues on both sides of the road. It is difficult to stop here to take measurements or to take updated photos.

  • Many thanks. 1) I can see that the major issues raised on the Abindgon-bound carriageway were marked for repairs yesterday (26th June 2018). Indeed, other potholes on this stretch were aslo identified. HOWEVER: 2) The potholes on the Radley-bound carriageway (much closer to the Abingdon ring road roundabout) do not appear to have been marked for any repair. Could these have been missed? I assess the biggest pothole now at 30-60cm in length (est), and at least 3-5cm in depth. The issues are in a long stretch of road which may have been the subject of a utilities repair (or cable TV?) at some point. They are harder to see due to the colour of the previous 'repairs', but they still represent a hazard to drivers, and especially to cyclists when coming around the corner from the ring road and heading towards Radley. (See middle of the 3 photos posted previously).

  • Not fixed, but potholes on the Abindon bound carriageway have now been marked for repairs, and an update on FixMyStreet confirms that action will be taken. Thank-you! Note: Radley bound issues (close to the roundabout) have not yet been marked for repair. See relevant photo.

  • 1. The main potholes described in the title of this entry (on the Abingdon bound carriageway) were fixed a few weeks ago: Thank-You. 2. The second set of pot holes described in the text of the original entry (and subsequent updates) have not been fixed, and may have been missed. These are located on the Radley bound carriageway, shortly after the roundabout, in a section of "repaired" road. these potholes are deteriorating rapidly and need assessment/repair.
