Broken streetlamp needs reinstating between entrance to UNIV site and Woodstock Road
Reported in the Street lighting category anonymously at 10:15, Sun 14 January 2018
Sent to Oxfordshire County Council 5 minutes later
Sometime over the Christmas period the streetlamp was damaged - presumably a vehicle hit it. It seems the Council is aware as the majority of the street lamp (which had been knocked down) was removed from the pavement and security tape was wound around the base. The base is all that remains. It is important that this streetlamp is reinstated as soon as possible as it is critical for the provision of light in this dark area of the street which does not benefit from any other illumination such as from houses. Staverton Road is part of a designated cycle route and as such is used by many cyclists as well as many pedestrians (including lots of school children) because of the nearby traffic light controlled crossings on the Banbury and Woodstock Roads. This should be a priority in my opinion.

Thank you for your report; we have logged this as a fault on our management system. Our current policy is for our contractor to attend electrical & structural emergencies as a priority; these will be attended within a 24hr period. All other faults are logged on our management system, for efficiency, these are grouped by area and the date they were reported, and the contractor attends against a programmed of works based on this approach.

I am disappointed that this has not been treated as a priority item. It is obvious that Oxford City Council were aware of the broken lamp post before I reported it because their staff had put tape on what is left of it.

Unfortunately we have currently only been able to make units safe. This column will be replaced when we have the resources to do so, sorry for the delay

I wonder when the council will have "the resources" to fix this street lamp...it is dark on this street which is frequented by many people 24 hours a day as people use the adjacent pedestrian crossings on the Banbury and Woodstock Roads. It is almost three months since this street lamp was damaged and has been out of action...

Thank you for your e-mail which has been passed to me to respond. We are aware of this column and it requiring a replacement, as per our current policy our contractor attended site within 24 hours and made the unit safe, as the column was stable and the lantern secure they replaced the damaged lamp and advised this will need replacing at some point but is in a safe condition and working.
Unfortunately, all general faults are logged on our management system, for efficiency, these are grouped by area and the date they were reported, and the contractor attends against a programmed of works based on this approach. With regards to replacement columns, we do have a list of where these are located and will replace them as and when resources allow us to do so.
Sorry I cannot assist further at this time.

It is very disappointing that over three months have passed and this streetlamp is still not fixed. How long do we have to wait? Streetlamps which work are essential to ensure pavements are lit so that people are safe. Please will the council respond with a time period in which we can expect to have this fixed?😢
