A sizeable pothole has suddenly developed on the A4155 Reading Road in Shiplake near the War Memorial
Reported in the Pothole category anonymously at 16:25, Fri 12 January 2018
Sent to Oxfordshire County Council 5 minutes later
A pothole more than 1 foot diameter has developed today (12/1/18) on the A4155 by the War Memorial in Shiplake, opposite the junction with Woodlands Road. A depression has formed in the road surface, suggesting a weakness in the underlying road structure at this point. The A4155 is a busy road and this new pothole, which is on a bend at a busy junction, will worsen rapidly if it is not attended to. Vehicles which try to avoid running over the pothole may swerve towards oncoming traffic.

The pothole has doubled in size since yesterday. It seems to be caused by a water leak under the road. Although today (13/1/18) is dry the road at this point is wet. Another water filled depression has now formed on the other side of the road.

The water filled depression reported last Saturday (13/1/18) has today (21/1/18) collapsed making a new pothole more than 3 feet long - see photo. It is clear this is due to a burst water pipe under the road. Thames Water was notified a week ago. Temporary traffic lights appeared last week but were removed after 3 days without any repair work having been done. This needs to be sorted out urgently.

Thanks for using Fix My Street to record your problem. We sent a gang to repair this temporarily to remove the danger. This is the responsibility of Thames Water and we have contacted them to repair the leak.
