New street lights are too bright causing additional light spillage and light pollution

Sent to Oxfordshire County Council 1 minute later
The bulbs have been replaced in several existing Street light columns along this stretch of Wantage Road, Wallingford. The lights are now a much harsher white colour which appears to have increased light pollution and the spill of the light onto surrounding properties. The lights themselves appear excessively bright and quite blinding to look at. When driving down the road night there quite a distraction. They have replaced a much softer orange light and now appear bright white which is a local resident we are finding quite intrusive. The lights were replaced in the last few days.

Dear Judith Payne
Many thanks for your Fix my street report. We carried out a night time inspection last night to evaluate the scheme and have asked our contactor to relook at their design due to the intensity of the light and amount of light falling onto resident’s properties.
They are in the process in looking at all options available and speaking to the lantern manufacture to come up with the best solution, please beware this may take a number of weeks due to order replacement equipment or lanterns.
Kind regards
Dave
