Road markings at roundabout not clearly visible
Reported in the Road Markings category anonymously at 22:01, Tue 24 October 2017
Sent to Oxfordshire County Council 4 minutes later
Approaching this roundabout on the A4074 northbound, the road splits into two lanes. Logically, the left lane should be for turning left and the right lane for going straight on. Cars in the left lane regularly go straight on and I, in the right lane, have narrowly avoided several accidents. Please can you clearly mark each lane with the direction for cars to proceed - LEFT for the left lane and RIGHT/STRAIGHT ON for the right lane. This is a serious safety issue. Thank you

There is no left turn on this round about. Do you mean the roundabout at Crowmarsh Hill further north on the A4074?
Follow the lines on the round about. Right lane turns right, left lane is for the 2 left turns and straight on.
You're right, some better signage to show right lane only turning right is necessary to avoid collisions with people in the right lane incorrectly going straight on.

Thank you for your message. No, I am not talking about the Crowmarsh Hill roundabout. I am talking about this roundabout where I placed the map marker - i.e. the junction of the A4074 and the A4130 which turns left off the A4074. There IS a left turn on this roundabout when you approach it on the A4074 northbound i.e. FROM the south. You pass the turning to the B4009 (to your left), then the turning to Mongewell and then you arrive at the A4074/A4130 roundabout. There are no road markings on the road at that junction to tell drivers which lane to select. The total absence of direction signage on the road surface has already been reported (two years ago) but not acted on. I always take the right hand lane to go straight on, but have had several near-misses with drivers in the left-hand lane also going straight on, instead of turning left. Painting a left-turn arrow and 'A4130' or 'Didcot' in the left-hand lane and a suitable arrow and 'A4074' / 'Oxford' in the right-hand lane would help decrease the likelihood of collisions occurring. (Incidentally, I have never seen any driver in the right lane at the Crowmarsh Hill roundabout going straight on: in my experience, they always turn right to Henley.)

Is OCC waiting for a fatal accident before some paint can be applied to the road surface to make this roundabout safe? this is a truly serious safety issue. Many people have been reporting this problem here and OCC is closing the case! this is truly irresponsible act coming from a public dept.

It is only a matter of time before there is an RTA at this junction. Motorists in the inner lane regularly go straight ahead, instead of turning left as there are no arrows on the road to suggest/advise otherwise. It appears that there may have been arrows on the road at some point, but they are almost totally worn away
