The trees are blocking out the light from the street lights making the foot/cycle path very dark to walk along.

The overhanging branches onto the footpath have been cut back, but the idea was to also cut back the higher overhanging branches as they are the ones that cut out the streetlights and the daylight. This can be achieved using a pole saw or a long handled chainsaw/hedge trimmer.
