Road uneven to the point that it has ruptured the oil sump on my van resulting in breakdown assistance and a costly repair bill for a new oil sump and oil

Reported via mobile in the Roads and Carriageways category anonymously at 13:51, Wednesday 9 September 2026

Sent to Oxfordshire County Council less than a minute later

The surface is uneven and hazardous to the point where even at 20 mph, the undercarriage of my Peugeot Expert van has been ruptured causing engine oll to leak out at speed and needing to reach a safe rescue location as soon as possible (layby on A4130) in order that The AA can recover or repair the van. This should not happen on a road where people live and expect deliveries to be made.

  • The road surface is uneven and hazardous to the point that, even at 20mph, the undercarriage of my Peugeot Expert van has made heavy contact with the road surface causing the oil sump to rupture and for the oil to be lost all over the road. As a result it required me to get back to the main A4130 road as soon as possible in order to allow The AA to repair or recover the van. At the time (12:32pm) I was delivering to a private address in Crocker End

  • The photos submitted clearly show scrape marks in the centre of the road from the undercarriages of vehicles which have made heavy contact with the road surface. The adverse camber present on each side of the road due to surface erosion and potholes has led to the centre of the road being raised to the extent that impact with vehicle undercarriages is inevitable, even at 20mph or slower.

  • This latest third photo shows the point of impact where the oil sump of my van made contact with the road surface, and the subsequent discharge of oil into the road.

  • Attached in this latest update is the bill for the repair work done by Arrow Auto Care in Crowmarsh Gifford. As is clearly stated, this includes vehicle roadside recovery and towing to Arrow Auto Care, the fitting of a brand new oil sump and oil filter plus five and a half litres of engine oil in addition to two hours of labour totalling £509.39
