The road signage has been damaged and is lost in the hedge

Reported by Lynnette Fittill at 13:16, Tue 7 June 2022

The road sign as you leave the village of Uffington, assuming it used to say “30” and perhaps a warning sign for horse riders and pedestrians, is totally overgrown in the hedge. This is a popular section of road for horse riders of all ages….we see 10 - 15 horses a day, more at weekends and loads of walkers and cyclists. The hedge is overgrown which forces the horse riders, particularly the taller ones into the centre of the road. Vehicles are not slowing down when they enter the village but the situation is made worse as those leaving have no warning signage so obviously think they are on a country lane and start to accelerate out of the village. We are working on the adjacent building plot and have seen many near misses which is a bit worrying with many young riders and pet walkers who are very frequently using this section of road. The situation is made worse by the blind bend in the road where horses etc. coming into the village are also forced out by overhanging hedges.
