Worn road markings contributing to frequent failure to give way at a dangerous single-lane road narrowing Reported anonymously at 09:51, Mon 25 October 2021 In August 2017 I reported an urgent issue as follows: There's a single-lane road narrowing at the junction of Church Road and Littleworth Road in Wheatley. Although traffic is meant to give way in both directions, the street markings are worn and almost invisible, especially on the BLIND bend entrance to the road narrowing going uphill into Church Road. Also, both entrances only have narrow road warning signs, and no give way signs. Consequently, cars coming around the lower bend and up the hill towards Church Road frequently take the opportunity to drive blindly into the chicane, or tailgate cars in front which have started to go up, without any attempt to give way to cars waiting to enter, or already in the process of entering, the road narrowing towards Littleworth Road. This is exacerbated by the fact that cars coming down the hill towards Littleworth Road may already have committed to entering the chicane, with no cars in sight below, when cars coming the other way suddenly appear, get to their 'give way' markings first, and see it as their right to start coming up, frequently resulting in impasses and arguments. This is a recipe for accidents, and is dangerous. I've used this road for over 30 years, and the issue has always been present, but has got worse with worn road markings and missing road signs. The reply was: “The budget for the refurbishment of road markings in SODC has now been fully allocated for this financial year, this site has therefore been added to the list of sites for road marking maintenance in the 2018/9 financial year.” That was over FOUR year ago, and the work has still not been done. Please prioritise, before there is a serious accident.
