Confusion caused by siting of pedestrian crossing lights Reported anonymously at 16:03, Sun 14 July 2019 The Pedestrian Crossing Lights on the A44 exit from the A40/A44/A4144 Roundabout can appear to be the lights for traffic on the roundabout preparing to cross the A40 East-bound carriageway. If the Pedestrian Crossing Lights are green when the Roundabout Signal is red this can cause confusion for motorists. Today, for the third time in a month I witnessed a driver jump the red lights whilst the Pedestrian Crossing Lights were green. On this occasion he swerved violently to avoid colliding with me (as I had stopped at the red light) and used his horn to express displeasure as he accelerated across the A40 carriageway. On the two previous occasions collision with east bound A40 traffic was only narrowly averted. As it is the 3rd time, I believe that the siting of these lights is a significant factor in causing drivers to make cognitive errors. I therefore believe that the siting of the Pedestrian Crossing Lights has increased the risk to life and that rectification is urgently required either by re-siting or by linking the signal to the roundabout signal so that they are either both red or both green.
