Lack traffic direction signs into Wantage Market Place

Reported anonymously at 12:43, Tue 9 July 2019

Wantage market place is a clockwise roundabout. But some visitor drivers do not realise this. Almost daily a vehicle will enter from Wallingford Street travelling straight ahead towards Mill Street. The road arrow at Wallingford Street actually tells drivers to turn left. Multiple arrows need to advise drivers of traffic direction. Drivers also travel from Newbury Street directly into Wallingford Street, especially if the town centre is gridlocked. I notice every day numerous vehicles enter the town centre from Newbury Street, turn sharp right through the car park and drive into Wallingford Street. Sunday mornings cars drive the wrong direction around the town centre because it is not obvious which way to go. Cars also drive fast around the town centre, braking hard on the bends. I request two speed advisory signs. I am also surprised that vehicles park in the town centre car park with their vehicles overhanging the pedestrian crossing zig zag and double yellow lines. Although there are no enforcement timing plates for the yellow lines. I am also a professional driver, and have over 30 years driving experience. I have worked for 14 years as an Attendant for Wantage Town Council and these observations are based on my experience. Thank you. John Winch. Wantage resident. Ref: 873312
